Frame & Fairing Bits

Story So Far:-

  • Virtually all the fasteners have been exchanged from ACME EzeeRust™ to either stainless steel or anodised alloy.
  • Airbox removed and replaced with individual K&Ns.
  • Carbon fibre rear hugger and front mudguard.
  • Plastic undertray removed and replaced with smaller aluminium plate.
  • Swingarm, rear subframe and bracketry have all been powder coated.
  • Mini indicators fitted, with rears relocated to below "fins" of tail unit.
  • Alloy side plates, pillion peg hangers, rocker covers and misc. alloy parts all polished by myself.
  • Fitted front end from a `97 injection, comprising of: yokes; WP USD forks and wheel.
  • Raceco clipons.
  • Rear coil replaced with Raceco item.

To Be Done:-

  • Repaint fuel tank. The edges of the front fairing have rubbed through the paint on the leading edge of the tank and corrosion has set in.
  • Source better mirrors.
  • Try a 'Double bubble' screen to see if it will cut down buffeting.
  • Learn how to polish alloy better.
  • Fit matching wheels. The front is a silver hollow 3 spoke whilst rear is the origional black 'H' beam. 3 spoke Dymags would do nicely thankyouverymuch.
  • Uprate brakes perhaps.

Problems:-

  • Paint on petrol tank rubbed away as described above.
  • Mirror droop - apparently "Yes, they all do that sir."
  • Italian engine paint - does anyone remember the book or TV programme titled 'The Singing Detective'
  • Marzochi forks pumped fluid out of the top adjusters at about 2000 miles. The 'O' rings in the adjuster were removed and reseated to solve this.
  • The origional fork's chrome became pitted after 5 years, which was a combination of Scottish weather, road salt and mainly my carelessness. Hence the replacement with the WP items.

I have also made up brackets to allow the fitting of Givi luggage, however the problem is that when on the side stand and loaded up, the bike, if not on a perfectly level surface, will become unbalanced and start to fall over. This is due to the side stand being too far forward and I am going to have to find a better way of doing this. Incidentally, even without the rack fitted the bike has always been unstable if parked on lightly angled surfaces.

I know that those with Tonti framed models have fitted stands in the more conventional mid-frame position, but all I have seen for the spine frames is a center stand from Teo Lamers.

Any help or ideas greatly appreciated.
